In order to know how to check car oil, you need to know how to read the dipstick. There is a cross-hatched area on at least one side of the dipstick near the tip. Oil should reach somewhere inside that area. If it does not, add a quart of oil, run your car’s engine, turn the car off, then check the oil again.
